From one week to the next I never know what I am going to be asked to create. When I received an email from Debbie enquiring about the possibility of having a cake designed to celebrate her 50th birthday I knew straight away that this was going to be a fun cake to work on.
Debbie had chosen a 1960s theme for her celebration and was keen to incorporate bright colours. She came to see me for a consultation and due to the number of guests that she planned to invite to her party, it was decided that rather than a large slab cake, a tiered cake would be more dramatic.
Having chosen a vibrant colour palate and opting for flowers as the main feature, I started to sketch out various ideas. To add to the 1960s psychedelic theme I designed a cake which included three different cake shapes. A square base cake, a round middle tier and a top tier shaped like a flower.
I used multi coloured stylised flowers, graduating circles and hand moulded flowing tendrils to create a unique and striking cake. Rather than a long message the simple inclusion in the design of her age and name were the finishing touches to the cake.
